Highland Park was officially created in 1889, ten years after Reservoir No. 1 was built at the park's highest point. It is one of the four large urban parks managed by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. Today, Highland Park includes the popular Reservoir Loop, numerous trails, bike track, swimming pool, sand volleyball courts and the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. It also offers visitors a variety of landscape features, from the Babbling Brook, Lake Carnegie, the formal Entry Garden, Mount Bigelow, Heth's Run and seasonal pools along Washington Boulevard.
Highland Park is located at the northern edge of the Highland Park neighborhood. Several popular local cafes and restaurants are located within a mile along Highland Avenue and Bryant Street.
